Dr Laura Marelli has worked as a Consultant Gastroenterologist since 2010, helping patients with a wide range of digestive problems including indigestion, acid reflux, abdominal pain, bloating, diarrhoea, constipation and food intolerances. She has a specialist interest in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, colonoscopy and capsule endoscopy.

She specialises in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory bowel disease, including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, as well as bowel cancer screening, and has a particular interest in functional and autoimmune gastrointestinal conditions such as IBS, coeliac disease, dyspepsia and gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, plus rare and complex disorders including microscopic colitis and eosinophilic oesophagitis.

Over her career she has performed more than 5,000 gastroscopies and over 5,000 colonoscopies, and has reported more than 1,000 capsule endoscopies. She has been accredited to perform bowel cancer screening colonoscopies since 2012, is the lead gastroenterologist for the colorectal and polyp multidisciplinary team meetings at her NHS hospital, and has served as Director of the North East London Bowel Cancer Screening Centre since 2012. She currently serves as Endoscopy Lead at her NHS hospital and for North East London, and has taught on JAG endoscopy courses since 2009, most recently as North East London Lead for the London Endoscopy Training Academy since 2022.

Her approach is patient-centred: she takes the time to listen, explain, and work with each patient to find the best way forward for their digestive health.
